GE introduces Spectra H metal 3D printing equipment suitable for high temperature alloy processing

GE and electron beam melting (EBM) metal positive "hug" 3 d printing technology, from the 2013 acquisition of Italian Avio airlines began, GE's turbine blade materials used advanced aerospace titanium aluminum (TiAl) manufacturing.This material is about 50% lighter than the nickel base alloy used in low-pressure turbine blades.Use blades made of titanium aluminum materials, the low pressure turbine can be reduced by 20%, the weight of the electron beam melting (EBM) metal 3 d printing technology can be more efficiency than the laser melting technology to processing blade, which is needed by GE.

In accordance with the need of industrialization progress, GE added material manufacture launched a high flux increase material manufacturing system - Arcam EBM Spectra H, the device used to process high temperature alloy material processing, and avoid the cracks.Not only is the performance improved, but the build volume of the device is also expanded, and the Spectra H will be able to produce larger parts at more than 1000 degrees C.

As manufacturers take significant steps towards mass production, larger, faster industrial solutions are needed.The Arcam EBM Spectra H is designed to meet the industrialization needs. The materials can support the capital and 718 alloy, and will be applicable to the processing of nickel-base superalloy from 2019.The application of Arcam EBM Spectra H in materials will open new market space.

GE added material manufacturing, of course, is not satisfied with these, GE materials science team are currently studying a wide range of high temperature materials, including high temperature nickel base alloy, tungsten, cobalt chromium alloy, stainless steel and metal matrix composites.

Arcam EBM Spectra H integrates a series of new functions and enhancements:

- automatic calibration of 6kW beam. All preheating and post-heating steps will be reduced by half.

- build volume increased from 200 x200x380mm to Ø x430mm 250

- closed loop system with dustproof environment.

- the activity insulation screen can improve insulation.

- automatic powder distribution and powder recovery system.

The cyclone separator and magnetic separator can achieve maximum powder control.
