New flexible biodegradable hydrogel can help 3D printing human soft tissues in the future.

The researchers recently published a paper in the American chemical society's ACS applied materials and interface magazine titled "high-elastic biodegradable single-mesh hydrogel for cell printing."Collaborators include Cancan Xu, li wenhan, dai guohao and Dr. Hong from Northeastern University in Boston.

"Cell printing is becoming a common technique for making cellulose scaffolds for biomedical applications.There are still major challenges in the use of hydrogels in soft tissue bioprinting, which requires living cells in hydrogels.In addition, hydrogel's elastic mechanical properties also require mechanical imitation of natural soft tissue.Here, we developed a visible light crosslinking, single grid and biodegradable hydrogels, with high elasticity and flexibility, suitable for cells to print, and has double network and bicomponent high elastic hydrogels are different.Single - network hydrogels trigger gelation using only one stimulus (visible light), which greatly simplifies the cell printing process.The obtained hydrogels are highly elastic and can adjust their mechanical properties to match various natural soft tissues.Hydrogels have good cellular compatibility to support the growth of fibroblasts in vitro.Using hydrogels, various human cell biopics were printed to form a cellular gel builder, with cells showing high viability after seven days of culture.The composite shape is printed by hydrogel, indicating the feasibility of the hydrogels printed by cells.We believe that this highly elastic single grid hydrogels can be simple to print in different cell types, and can be based on hydrogel biological print research platform provide new materials and new ideas.
