Reprocessed Material Of Thermosetting 3D Printing Was Born
May 29, 2018

To cope with the environmental challenges, a Singapore university of technology design (SUTD) researchers developed a thermosetting to deal with 3D printing materials (three DPRTS), which makes 3D printing materials can be in shape, and then repair and recycle.

As one of the project, design of science and technology university in Singapore made science and mathematics, an assistant professor of Gregory chow (Kevin) said: "the first time we have developed to deal with thermosetting photosensitive polymer, the polymer is designed for the use of digital light processing technology for high resolution 3D printing and design.First, the structure of the high resolution can restructure and fixed into any shape after printing, this feature can improve the efficiency of print. For example, you can fold from two-dimensional layer generated 3D.Second, the structure can be repaired, which means that the damaged part can be done to print, and ensure the integrity of the structure, to extend the durability of the product. Most importantly, our material can be reused in other ways."

Professor, head of the project, another Martin Dunn (now at the university of Colorado Denver, dean of engineering and applied science) said: "overall, the development of the three DPRTS quickly used to solve the problem for 3D printing materials of environmental protection problem provides a feasible solution.3D printing materials will be widely applied to including tissue engineering, software robots, nano devices, various advanced fields."

In 3DPRT resin solution, uv photosensitivity acrylate functional groups to make it suitable for uv-curable based 3D printing technology, so as to make the 3DPRT available to print high precision complex three-dimensional structures. And alcohol and ester base functional groups under the high temperature of ester exchange reaction gives the structure of printing can be more rational. This kind of strategy to develop reusable by two-step polymerization processing thermoset photosensitive 3D printing materials not only allows users to shape of 3D printing, also can be directly in the damage interface for 3D printing to repair damaged parts. In addition, the scrap parts can be recycled by ester exchange reaction in other aspects.
