The New Design Of The 3D Printing Needle Is Inspired By The Sting Of Bees.
May 04, 2018

Engineers at temple university used 3D printing to develop a unique concept for new surgical needles. After taking inspiration from nature, they decided to explore the needle-like projections of mosquitoes and wasps, and then ultimately the sting of bees as the basis for the new design. The project was carried out by Temple mechanical engineer Parsaoran Hutapea and doctoral candidate Mohammad Sahlabadi.

"We brought some bees into the lab and took them out and examined their thorns."Hutapea said."Bee stings human skin for what we are trying to develop is very attractive, because is mainly due to stab thorn barb, it would be relatively flat ground through the skin into the organization."
